((folkYEAH!))) Presents Sean Hayes at Moe's Alley on Saturday October 21st 2017.  Special guests Magic In The Other support.

ABOUT SEAN HAYES Low Light, the eighth album from independent recording artist Sean Hayes, captures his distinctive sound at its most intimate. Recorded both at home and in the studio, Low Light webs its way through genres, incorporating the pulse and yearning of R&B with the low-fi grit and crackle of folk. From the gauzy, beat-driven title track to the aching, old-school country “Sing Me Your Love Song,” Hayes’ voice glides between a growling purr and seductive vibrato, transporting the listener into a rich, sensual late-night world.

In his twenty -year career as a San Francisco-based musician, Hayes has won acclaim from fans and critics alike. He’s duetted with Aimee Mann, toured with Ani DiFranco and the Cold War Kids, been covered by The Be Good Tanyas and re-mixed by DJ Mark Farina, and had his music featured in a variety of television shows, films, and commercials. Raised in North Carolina and honed as an artist in Northern California, Hayes crafts music that, as the SF Weekly puts it, “succeeds on the tension between warm, resonant soul and dirt-road folk, all laced with a wandering troubadour’s coo.” In the track “Home I Left” Hayes sings of leaving San Francisco--“headed north with my young family/needed space to grow”--and this album is structured to represent snapshots from his life in the four years since. Low Light thrums with songs of desire, sanctuary, and the redemptive power of love.

Magic In The Other-

Magic In The Other founder and leader Ezra Lipp has spent the last decade honing his craft as one of the most creative, versatile, and in-demand drummers in the Bay Area and beyond. He has performed all over the US and around the world with an impressive and diverse roster of bands and artists including the likes of Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh, Iranian counter-culture superstar Mohsen Namjoo, Folk-Soul troubadour Sean Hayes, and many others. In this long-overdue original project, Lipp has created a collaborative vehicle with which to express his unique musical sensibilities. Magic In The Other brings to life original compositions, presents creative twists on unexpected covers, and delves into unexplored musical territory only possible when communicating deeply with other fine musicians and a potent audience. Undoubtedly, the performance is also peppered with banter and antics reflecting Lipp’s unique brand of humor and creativity.

In the very first incarnation of Magic In The Other, Ezra Lipp has recruited a swift and nimble trio featuring the relentlessly groovy Steve Adams on the bass (ALO, Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers) and innovative Oakland guitarist Roger Riedlbauer (Mercury Falls). The music indirectly borrows from many different influences and idioms: be it the rhythmic sophistication of Jazz and West African music, the energy and spirit of Rock N’ Roll, the movement based compositional format of Western Classical, or the improvisatory intensity of North India Ragas. However, it ultimately fuses many influences together to create something unique and refreshing. Magic In The Other attempts to deeply connect with the listener, creating a mentally stimulating, emotionally resonate, highly danceable, and distinctly transformative experience where everyone leaves feeling slightly more magical.
