Moe's Alley presents SAMBADÁ + BROKEN ENGLISH for a special BRAZILATIN SUMMER CELEBRATION!  Come celebrate summer with Santa Cruz's favorite Latin dance bands for a night of live Afro-Brazilian/Salsa/Cumbia & more!

ABOUT SAMBADA - Dubbed the West Coast’s hottest Brazilian band by promoters, journalists and fans, SambaDá musically unites the Americas. Based in the rich musical traditions of Brazil, SambaDá also references salsa and cumbia, and blends them playfully with funk and reggae beats. Brazilian natives Papiba Godinho and Dandha da Hora bring profound knowledge and respect for Brazilian music, and together with the entire band, they present a unique musical sound with a universal appeal.

SambaDá was formed in 1998 in Santa Cruz, California, by capoeira master Papiba Godinho, saxophonist Anne Stafford, and drummer Gary Kehoe and has gone on to conquer clubs and festivals across the country with its explosive Carnival-like performances. The band is known for its high-energy percussion, danceable grooves and visually dynamic show.

ABOUT BROKEN ENGLISH
Broken English delivers a good time to all occasions because it draws upon the entire universe of Latin and Caribbean influences for a sound that is powerful and very danceable.  A live performance by BROKEN ENGLISH amounts to a refreshing musical journey that transports its audience on a virtual vacation around the Caribbean islands. From Puerto Rico to Cuba to the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Belize, Trinidad, Tobago and Brazil, we even stop off in Miami for some salsa fusion. The BROKEN ENGLISH repertoire balances both Spanish and English lyrics so skillfully, that crossover appeal is all but guaranteed.  The unmistakable sound of Puerto Rican salsa reflects but one facet of the versatility BROKEN ENGLISH brings to any performance. "We cover a lot of musical territory," says leader and music director Javier Muniz.

BROKEN ENGLISH draws upon Cuban traditions of rumba, mambo, cha-cha-cha, guajira, son and timba. From the Dominican Republic, the group revels in the infectious sound of merengue. Jamaica brings a taste of reggae. Beliz contributes the distinctive punta sound. Trinidad and Tobago delivers the sound of soca. Brazil is unique for its Samba and Colombia brings in the cumbia. BROKEN ENGLISH does it all and more.  The instrumental mix of acoustic and amplified guitar, piano, bass, sax, trombone, trumpet and the full range of Latin percussion: drums, congas, bongos, and timbales, combined with the wonderful talent of our two lead singers provide the delicate and delicious blend of a musical spice that is BROKEN ENGLISH.  If a great Latin/Caribbean dance band is what you are looking for BROKEN ENGLISH is the band for you. We look forward to performing for you!
