VIDEO- Yo Soy Salsamuffin VIDEO- Sergent Garcia

Sergent Garcia brings his vibrant Latin and reggae sounds back to North America this July for an 8 city tour, including San Diego's Asi Suena Latin Rock Fest, Madison's La Fête de Marquette and Montreal's Festival Nuits D'Afrique.  Already a household name in Europe, 2011's highly celebrated Una y Otra Vez was Sergent Garcia's first album in over 5 years and solidified his legacy as a salsa-reggae superstar this side of the Atlantic. It also saw Sergent Garcia's exciting new artistic direction, collaborating with some of the hottest names in Colombia's scorching electrotropical music scene.

Sizzling Salsa Meets Raucous Reggae:
"If Sergent Garcia didn't exist, we music critics would have had to invent him." Inkblot
Who needs Zorro when you've got his funky sidekick to save the day? Sergent Garcia conjures up a powerful concoction of Cuban Timba, Son, Afro-Cuban Jazz, Dancehall Reggae, Soul, rap and Ska. Singing primarily in Spanish (but also in French and English), Garcia's lyrics assault racism, the military, police, and nationalism while joyfully embracing African spirituality and espousing social righteousness. Anchored by a deep rhythm section of congas, timbales, drums, percussion, fat bass, and jazzy piano, the horns -- saxophone, trumpet, and trombone -- swing tightly and soulfully.

Bruno "Sergent" Garcia typifies the new global pop music that has transformed the Parisian music scene. He may be a one-time punk rocker with a Spanish father and French mum but he has long been fascinated, both with reggae and with Latin styles, and has now created his own cheerfully melodic Euro-Afro-Caribbean fusion that has become known as salsamuffin.

With a tendency to shatter anything resembling convention - a legacy from his years playing guitar with the cult punk rock group Ludwig Von 88 - Garcia's Spanish free-style toasting has made him a musical icon.

Currently setting Latin America on fire, Sergent Garcia has been ripping up dance floors all over the world, with acoustic instrumentals and electronic wizardry, leaving ecstatic audiences spellbound.  Don't this once in a lifetime opportunity to see Sergent Garcia and his full live band right here in Santa Cruz.
